49ers Play Marshall On The Road, Thursday

The Charlotte 49ers (15-13, Conference USA: 6-9) conclude the regular-season on the road at Marshall (10-20, C-USA: 4-11), Thursday, March 6 at 7 pm. The game will be broadcast nationally on the CBS Sports Network.

Last time out, Charlotte defeated Old Dominion, 74-63, in their final home game last Sunday. All eight Niners who played in the game scored at least six points. Willie Clayton and Mike Thorne each scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Pierria Henry recorded his second double-figure assists game of the season with 10 assists. Marcus Bryan recorded his first career double-figure scoring game with 10 points. The 49ers finished the game with a 40-28 advantage on points in the paint. Charlotte also enjoyed a 35-25 advantage on the boards.

Shawn Lester leads the team in scoring at 12.4 points per game. Lester has recorded 18 double-figure scoring games off the bench this season. Henry is the only player in Conference USA and among a handful of players in the nation that average double-figure points (12.1 ppg) while averaging five rebounds (5.1 rpg) and five assists (6.1 apg) per game. Clayton (10.9 ppg) and Terrence Williams (10.5 ppg) round out the double-figure scorers. Clayton ranks second in Conference USA in rebounds (8.8 rpg). Clayton leads Conference USA in offensive rebounds at 3.75 per game. Thorne averages 9.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Denzel Ingram averages 7.5 points per game. Ben Cherry averages 6.4 points per game. Cherry is second in Conference USA in three-point field goal percentage (46.4%). Clayton is second in Conference USA in field goal percentage (59.9%). Bryan has scored 16 points off the bench in the last two games.

Marshall is lead in scoring by Kareem Canty, who averages 16.2 points per game. Ryan Taylor averages 13.3 points per game. Chris Thomas rounds out Marshall’s double-figure scorers at 12.6 points per game. Taylor leads Marshall in rebounding at 7.2 boards per game.

Thursday’s game will mark the eighth meeting between Charlotte and Marshall, who leads the all-time series, 5-2. Marshall has won two of the three games between the two teams at Marshall. The 49ers lost to Marshall, 59-56, in their first meeting this season which came in Charlotte’s Halton Arena, February 15, 2014. Lester led the 49ers with 16 points in that game. Henry recorded his first career double-figure assists game with 10 assists.
