Redshirt senior Ross Steedley (Granite Quarry, N,C. / East Rowan HS) tied a career-high with four RBI, including a two-run home run in the second inning, to lead the Charlotte 49ers to a 6-5 Atlantic 10 Conference baseball victory Sunday at Xavier. Charlotte is 14-14 on the season, improving to 2-4 in league play. Xavier is 12-15 overall, 2-1 in conference.

Steedley, who had missed Charlotte's last six games, got the 49ers on the board with the home run on his first swing of the day, a 2-0 pitch in the second with a runner on for a 2-0 lead. The Niners added a run in the fourth after a throwing error before the Musketeers scored twice in the fourth on three straight singles for a 3-2 lead.

The 49ers scored three runs in the sixth, the last two on a two-out single from Steedley, thanks to a pair of XU errors, to take a 6-2 lead. The Musketeers came back with three in the bottom half to get the game to 6-5.

The win went to reliever Chad Rothlin (Hickory, N.C. / Fred T. Foard HS), who improved to 2-2. He pitched 1.2 innings in relief of starter Tyler Barnette (Hickory, N.C. / Hickory HS). Reliever John Hamilton (Strongsville, Ohio) pitched the last 3.1 innings for his sixth save of the season.

The loss went to starter Tyler Koors, who falls to 1-4. In five innings, he gave up three hits and four walks for all six Charlotte runs.

The 49ers will play all four games at home next week, starting with a Tuesday night home game against High Point at 6 p.m.
