Charlotte baseball will step out of league for its final non-conference weekend series with a three-game set at Georgia Tech. Saturday's contest has been moved up an hour to 6 p.m., while the Sunday doubleheader starts at 2 p.m. in Atlanta.

The 49ers are playing their fourth game this season versus the Atlantic Coast Conference, where they are 0-3 this season. Charlotte are Georgia Tech have played just twice in baseball, a 13-inning game in Charlotte in 1982, and one game in Atlanta, Charlotte dropping a 12-4 decision in 1998.

The 49ers come in red hot, winning its last four weekend games, including a sweep at George Washington in league play. The 49ers outscored the Colonials 32-10 in the series, with junior Shane Basen (Waxhaw, N.C. / Marvin Ridge HS) earning A-10 Player of the Week, and freshman Brad Elwood (Indian Trail, N.C. / Piedmont HS) getting the nod for Rookie of the Week. Charlotte is 20-23 to this point of the season.

Georgia Tech has won five midweek games in a row, but has captured just one of its last four conference weekend series. The Yellow Jackets enter the weekend 26-19 overall.

Charlotte will keep its regular weekend rotation of redshirt senior Andrew Smith (Matthews, N.C. / Butler HS) for Saturday, with Redshirt senior Joe Yermal (Bel Air, Md. / McDonogh HS) going in game one Sunday, followed by sophomore Tyler Barnette (Hickory, N.C. / Hickory HS) pitching the nightcap. All three received wins last weekend, the first time all season that this trio has started and won their three starts. It is also Charlotte's first three-game win streak since the end of February.

Basen recorded 12 RBI in the GW series, tying career highs for hits (four) and RBI 95) in Sunday's series finale. He leads the team with 40 RBI, fourth-most in the conference this season and took over the league-lead with his five season triples, hitting a pair over the weekend.  His 21 triples in conference-games only are the most of any player on any A-10 team. Redshirt senior Shane Brown (Davidson, N.C. / North Mecklenburg HS) took over the league lead with a .382 batting average. He already leads the A-10 with 29 stolen bases, is third with 42 runs and a .458 on-base percentage.

In three games versus ACC opponents this season, freshman Derek Gallello (Fredericksburg, Va. / Riverbend HS) leads Charlotte with a .444 average and a .545 on-base percentage. Shortstop Justin Roland has a team-best five hits and three RBI in those games, while sophomore pitcher Brock Hudgens (Jamestown, N.C. / Southwest Guilford HS) has recorded 13 strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Closer John Hamilton (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville HS) has not allowed an earned run in 4.1 innings in a pair of games versus ACC opponents this season.

Though he has just played in two of the three games, Brown is 4-for-5 with four stolen bases in 11 innings versus ACC teams this season.

The 49ers will have the midweek off again next week as exams continue on campus. Charlotte will play a home league series next weekend against Saint Louis, beginning Friday night at 6 p.m. at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium.
