Charlotte volleyball plays a lone Conference USA match this weekend, traveling to Huntington, West Virginia to take on Marshall for a 2 p.m. league contest.
After four weeks of playing two conference matches per weekend, Charlotte is one of seven teams, Marshall included, to have logged eight league matches to this point. The 49ers are 10-13 overall, 0-8 in C-USA. Marshall enters the match 12-11 overall, 6-2 in eight league matches.
This is fourth all-time meeting between the programs, with the Thundering Herd taking two of the previous meetings. This will be the first match in the series history played at Marshall and the first time the two teams are meeting as conference foes.
Charlotte took a set off of conference leader Tulsa Friday night before falling a five-set marathon Sunday at home to Middle Tennessee. The Niners are looking for their first win back into Conference USA, despite playing close matches. Charlotte has had 16 of the 31 league sets decided by four or fewer points, with a 3-13 mark in those sets.
Charlotte libero Michelle Hovey (Raleigh, N.C. / Lighthouse) is ranked third in the league with a 4.77 digs-per-set average, with setter Britney Leigh Held (Brookfield, Wis. / Brookfield Central HS) sitting fifth in C-USA at 10.34 assists per set.
Marshall’s Sacha Byous-McConnell is second in conference in attack percentage, hitting .383 for the season, while setter Sammie Bane is one spot behind Held In sixth of the setters with a 10.09 assists-per-set average in 2013.
The 49ers will return home for a pair of weekend matches to start November, starting Friday night at 7 p.m. on the first against UTSA.
