Charlotte volleyball captured a fourth-straight win ahead of the team’s first home matches of the year on Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory (25-10, 25-15, 25-18) at North Carolina A&T at Moore Gymnasium in non-conference action. The 49ers improve to 7-4 overall, dropping the Aggies to 1-10.
Well above her season average, sophomore libero Michelle Hovey (Raleigh, N.C. / Lighthouse) had 20 digs. She raised her season average to 4.95 with now 193 digs in 11 matches.
Freshman Morgan Barker (Holly Springs, N.C.) served seven-straight times in the opening set as the Niners pulled away with a .275 attack percentage in the frame en route to the early lead. Charlotte senior Taylor Cannon (Elizabeth City, N.C. / Camtech HS) led all players with five kills in the opening set.
Charlotte trailed at 3-0 in the second, but reeled in A&T at 10-9 and never trailed again. Senior captain Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) had four kills in set two to pace the offense.
The third set went back and forth until the Niners pulled away late. Junior Savannah Gaster (Johnsonville, S.C.) paced the offense with four more kills in the final set.
Sophomore setter Britney Leigh Held (Brookfield, Wis. / Brookfield Central HS) has 40 assists in three sets.
Charlotte will host the 49er Invite this weekend, with three home matches in two days. The 49ers begin with a Friday night 7 p.m. match against South Carolina State. The event is Beach Night, with a visor giveaway while supplies last.
