Senior Bianca Rouse (Columbia, S.C. / Keenan HS) recorded her team-leading ninth double-double of the season with team highs of 15 kills and 18 digs, but too many errors doomed the 49ers in a 3-1 home loss (25-23, 25-15, 24-26, 25-18) to George Washington Saturday night at Halton Arena in Atlantic 10 Conference action. The win pushed the Colonials to 9-14 overall and a 6-3 league record, while the Niners slipped to 9-12 on the season, 1-8 in conference play.THe match was the last of a five-match home stand, spanning the last three weeks.

The first set was the tightest, with seven tie scores and three lead changes, but Charlotte made 11 errors to sabotage the ability to take the opening set. With the match tied at 23, GW got a kill and won the set on a Niners error to take the match lead. Charlotte had more kills and digs than GW, but was held to .045 in attack percentage.

Charlotte had fewer errors in the second set, but could not get the offense going in a runaway set for the Colonials into the intermission.

The Colonials looked early in the third that it might be a short night, with a 4-1 and later a 7-2 lead, but the 49ers came storming back to take a late lead and fended off the late GW charge in the two-point win. Junior Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) put down four kills in five attempts with one error for a .600 attack percentage in the frame.

The Colonials got out to a 13-7 start and maintained a margin in that vicinity to win the match. GW was able to get four aces in the set.

Videmsek added 12 kills for Charlotte and she contributed four blocks on the night. She leads the 49ers with 51 for the season. Freshman setter Britney Leigh Held (Brookfield, Wis. / Brookfield Central HS) had 37 assists and senior Jenna Litoborski (Lemont, Ill.) had 12 digs in the match.

The 49ers will go on the road for the first time in three weeks with a pair of road matches next weekend in Philadelphia, starting with a Friday night contest at La Salle at 7 p.m.
