Nine kills from Charlotte's co-captains Bianca Rouse (Columbia, S.C. / Keenan HS) and Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) were enough for the 49ers volleyball squad to win the season-opening match with a sweep of Bethune-Cookman (25-15, 25-22, 25-10) Friday afternoon at the Minges Coliseum in the East Carolina Classic opening match. The win was the third-straight victory for Charlotte, dating back to last season.
The 49ers played all 13 healthy bodies in the match, putting up a .253 attack percentage and limiting the Lady Wildcats to a negative .068 mark.
The 49ers fell behind 3-0 in the opening set, but climbed back in and trailed by only one point to start the second set in the remainder of the match. Videmsek finished the match with a .500 attack percentage, committing just one error in 16 attempts. She also led the team with one solo and three assisted blocks.
Senior libero Jenna Litoborski (Lemont, Ill.) led the defense with eight digs and five different 49ers had a service ace.
Senior setter Lily Vera (Anderson, S.C. / Stone Bridge HS) had 20 assists in charge of the offense.
The 49ers will finish off the weekend tournament Saturday with an 11 a.m. match against Campbell and the 7 p.m. nightcap against host East Carolina.
NOTES: Rouse needs just 15 more kills to become the 17th player in team history with 1,000 kills for her career... Her six digs put her at 503 for her career.
