Charlotte volleyball took its first win at Fordham and pulled to within a half-match of the sixth and final Atlantic 10 Tournament spot in a 3-2 win (27-25, 19-25, 23-25, 27-25, 15-9) on Friday afternoon. It was Charlotte's first win at Rose-Hill Gym at Fordham in Atlantic 10 Conference play as the Niners improved to 12-14 overall, 6-8 in conference play. Fordham was eliminated from contention into the A-10 Tournament with a 4-10 league record, 7-22 overall.

Charlotte is 6-2 in five-set matches and put together a .400 attack percentage in the last frame to grab the victory. Charlotte jumped out to a 6-1 lead and was never behind in the final frame.

"We anticipated to play some five-set battles this weekend," said Niners head coach Chris Redding. "If you look at the box score, everyone contributed to the win, helping us to come back and win in this match. We are focused on recovering and heading to Rhode Island to compete in that one."

Charlotte trailed for most of the first set, but came back and surged to the 27-25 win in the first. The Niners out hit the Rams .290 to .214 to take the early lead.

Fordham looked to close out the match with wins in the second and third sets as Charlotte had 10 errors in those sets.

In the fourth, Charlotte got down by four at 20-16, but put together a 6-0 run to take a 22-20 lead. The Rams forced a tie at 23 and the two teams played to ties at 24 and 25 before a Fordham attack error and a 49ers block by freshman Savannah Gaster (Johnsonville, S.C. / Johnsonville HS) and junior Shannon McClean (Cypress, Tex. / Cy-Woods HS) blocked another attack to force the fifth and deciding set.

Junior Bianca Rouse (Columbia, S.C. / Keenan HS) had her 13th double-double of the season with a match-high 22 kills to go with 11 digs. Sophomore Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) added 16 kills to assist in the win. Senior setter Sheri Davis (Cape Coral, Fla. / Evangelical Christian HS) had 48 assists in the match. Libero Jenna Litoborski led the Niners with 12 digs in the contest.

Charlotte heads to Kingston, Rhode Island to tangle with the Rams of URI on Sunday at 1 p.m. Depending on the outcome of tonight's George Washington and URI match, the Sunday match could be a winner-take-all contest for the six seed and final entry into the A-10 Tournament next weekend.
