Charlotte junior outside hitter Bianca Rouse (Columbia, S.C. / Keenan HS) was one kill short of her third-straight double-double in leading Charlotte with nine kills and 10 digs in a Friday night road loss, 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-13) at Dayton. The Flyers remain unbeaten through 10 games in league play, and sit at 18-5 overall. Charlotte had a three-match win streak snapped and has a 9-13 record overall, 3-7 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
"We ran into an extremely good team which is undefeated in conference for a reason," said Charlotte head coach Chris Redding. "We did some good things, but we were inconsistent in some areas. We didn't dig the ball as well as we needed to. Our intensity level was too up and down for playing a quality opponent. Our focus now switches to Sunday as we try to start another win streak."
Dayton took the lead in every set and never gave it up, hitting a .442 attack percentage in the match, with just eight errors in 77 attempts. Dayton held the 49ers to just .011 on the offensive attack.
The 49ers did not record a block for the first time this season, and the first time in the seventh season as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Rouse had more kills and digs than the next two 49ers in those categories. Senior setter Sheri Davis (Cape Coral, Fla. / Evangelical Christian HS) was limited to 16 assists on the night.
The 49ers will return home for a 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon match against La Salle. The 49ers and Explorers played last Friday night in Philadelphia as Charlotte took the 3-0 win to extend to a perfect 12-0 all-time versus La Salle in volleyball.
