|Volleyball Rides Three-Match Win Streak|
After a third-straight road match Friday night at Dayton, the Charlotte 49ers volleyball team returns home Sunday to face La Salle in Halton Arena at 1 p.m.
The 49ers are riding high on a three-match win streak, which included road victories last weekend against La Salle and at Temple in Philadelphia. Charlotte is 9-12 on the season, 3-6 in the A-10.
The 49ers hang their hat on blocking and aces, ranking third and fourth in the league in those two categories at this point of the season. Junior Bianca Rouse (Columbia, S.C. / Keenan HS) is ranked in a tie for fifth in the league in kills (3.30 per set) this season. The 49ers have two student-athletes ranked in the top-six in the league stats in blocking. Sophomore Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) is second in the league with 1.08 blocks per set this season, while freshman teammate Savannah Gaster (Johnsonville, S.C. / Johnsonville HS) is sixth at 0.99 blocks per set this season.
In nine conference matches against each team once, Charlotte is third in the league in opponent attack percentage (0.159) and second only to Dayton in blocking (2.59 per set).
All Atlantic 10 teams have played each other one time through the league, with Dayton winning all nine, the only undefeated team at this point. Dayton is 17-5 overall. The Flyers are receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll this week. The Flyers are first in four of the league's seven catcgories, sitting no worse than fourth in the other three.
Individually, Megan Campbell and Shayne Brown are one-two in the league in attack percentage, with teammate Samantha Selsky sits 10th in the league in that category. Dayton also has the league's leader in kills (Rachel Krabacher), assists (Selsky), blocks (Campbell) and points (Krabacher).
La Salle had just one win the first trip through the league schedule, with the Explorers sitting at 5-21 overall this season. La Salle ranks last in five league categories, and third to last in the other two. The Explorers have only player listed in the top five in any statistical category in the A-10 to this point of the season. Breanna Mazalewski is third in the league with 0.38 service aces per set this season.
The 49ers will host a pair of matches next weekend to wrap the home schedule, including Sunday's senior day against Saint Louis in the season finale. Charlotte is one game out of the sixth and final A-10 Tournament berth, with six matches to go in the 2011 conference schedule.
