WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Charlotte women’s tennis traveled to Winston-Salem, N.C., for its second match of the season and fell, 7-0, to Wake Forest Saturday afternoon. The contest concludes the season-opening weekend for the 49ers.
The closest doubles match was at the No. 3 position, as the Charlotte (0-2) tandem of sophomore Jessica Pérez and freshman Macy Vonderschmidt fell, 8-4, to the Demon Deacons’ Kimmy Guerin and Andrea Retolaza.
Wake Forest (4-0) then completed the sweep with straight-set decisions in all six singles matches, though Vonderschmidt was the most competitive, dropping a 6-4, 6-3 meeting with Kasey Gardiner in the No. 5 slot.
The 49ers will return to action at 2 p.m. Feb. 6 against Gardner-Webb when they open the home slate at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. The match will be the first of eight scheduled home contests, including three against Conference USA foes, for Charlotte this spring.
