|Niners finish second-day action at Wake Forest|
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Charlotte women’s tennis split its two doubles matches in the morning and then earned a victory by freshman Briana Bodner in singles during afternoon play to conclude second-day action at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
“Another tough day for our young group,” head coach Michaela Gorman said. “We will continue to work hard and the results we are looking for will come. We will be back out on the courts tomorrow looking to improve with every shot we take.”
Picking up the doubles win, in the A flight, was the duo of junior Lisa Grosselius and freshman Macy Vonderschmidt. The tandem knocked off Appalachian State’s Mackenzie LaSure and Gabrielle Wreder, 8-6, in the consolation side of the bracket.
The other doubles pairing of sophomore Jessica Pérez and junior Natsuko Takayanagi fell in its only contest of the day.
Bodner mounted a three-set rally in her consolation quarterfinals match against UNC Greensboro’s Alisha Burton, handing the Spartans player a 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (4) setback.
Each of the other four singles matches of the day featuring 49ers were straight-set decisions.
Charlotte will wrap up competition at the three-day tournament with just singles action, as each of the Niners are slated for one match.
