Fall tournament season opens for 49ers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte women’s tennis team started its fall tournament campaign by playing host to the Charlotte Invitational Friday at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. The 49ers welcomed fellow in-state schools Campbell, East Carolina and UNC Greensboro to town for the two-day event.

Charlotte faced both East Carolina and UNC Greensboro in doubles to open the tournament before capping the day with a singles round against Campbell.

While the overall Niners results were not quite to the norm expected out of the program, getting action on the courts for the first time this fall and against other schools were positives. Charlotte was able to only play five of its eight players during the day due to injuries.

Freshmen Briana Bodner and Macy Vonderschmidt stepped onto the collegiate courts for the first time. Bodner played both of her doubles matches in a split tandem with Campbell’s Caroline Lindsey before facing the Camels’ Ana Maria Ortiz in singles action.

Vonderschmidt was a member of the top doubles duo with junior Lisa Grosselius, while she met Campbell’s Tamara Stanic in singles play.

Action will continue with one doubles round and two more singles rounds Saturday, weather permitting.
