CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
The Charlotte women’s tennis team will be looking to extend its current two-match win streak at Noon Saturday when it makes the trek to Greensboro, N.C., to face UNC Greensboro, the alma mater of head coach Michaela Gorman
“We look forward to a great match tomorrow at UNC Greensboro,” Gorman said. “It will be great for us to get out on the courts and compete again.”
The 49ers have won their last two, including a 7-0 shutout over Wofford Tuesday, to improve to 8-4 on the season. Of the dozen contests, only four have been on the road this year and the Niners are 2-2 in those matches.
Charlotte’s most success in singles action has come at the bottom of the lineup, as No. 5 Anna Ekelund
is 10-2 in dual matches and No. 6 Iveta Guneva
owns a 9-2 mark during dual play. Overall, the 49ers have a .500 or better ledger at five of the six positions.
Ekelund also is one-half of the squad’s top doubles pairing, carrying a 10-1 record playing at the No. 1 slot with Lisa Grosselius
. The duo has won its last eight decisions this spring. The pair has helped Charlotte boast a combined 21-10 doubles mark during the 12 dual matches.
UNC Greensboro stands at 8-4 also on the campaign after earning a 7-0 triumph at Gardner-Webb Saturday. The Spartans have won their last five outings, including a 4-3 upset against No. 73 Elon March 14.
Leading the UNCG charge is current Southern Conference Player of the Week Alex Whitehead. She became the second Spartan to collect the honor this spring, joining Niltooli Wilkins.
