Charlotte women's tennis closed out the 2012 regular season with a road loss at Campbell, 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the Nisbet Tennis Center. Charlotte is 15-5 heading into the conference tournament next weekend.
The Niners won all three doubles matches to take the opening point of the match, but only junior Anna Ekelund (Lomma, Sweden) could capture a victory in singles, winning 6-1, 6-3 at number four. She is 15-8 in singles play this season, including a 3-2 mark at number four, playing up a spot without freshman Lisa Grosselius in her normal spot.
Charlotte's top pair of Andrea Rivera (Lima, Peru) and Alexandra Zinn (Trellegorg, Sweden) improved to 17-4 with their 8-4 doubles win and the number-three pair of sophomore Dominica Nemec (Calgary, Canada) and freshman Natsuko Takayanagi (Fukui, Japan) won 8-5 to move to 13-11 this season. Charlotte finished 43-14 in dual match play in doubles, for a winning percentage of .754 this season.
With Grosselius out of the lineup, Ekelund played for the second time this year with sophomore Emmanuelle Briant (La Cadiere d'Azur, France), and the tandem took a 9-7 win at number two for an even 1-1 record this season.
Charlotte will wait to find out its seeding into next weekend's Atlantic 10 Conference championships, which will take place in Charlottesville, Va. beginning Thursday, April 19.
