Charlotte women's tennis got back to full strength and upended Richmond on the road to spoil the Spiders' unbeaten conference mark with a 4-3 49ers win on Friday afternoon at the Westhampton Tennis Complex. The 49ers improve to 14-4, 3-1 in league matches. The Spiders dip to 9-4 overall, 3-1 in conference.

"I am so proud of the team's focus and fight today," said Charlotte head coach Michaela Gorman." We have challenged the team all year to leave it all on the court and they definitely did that today."

Charlotte saw top singles player Alexandra Zinn (Trelleborg, Sweden) return to the lineup after missing Monday's and Wednesday's matches. She and her usual doubles partner, senior Andrea Rivera (Lima, Peru), improved to 15-4 with an 8-6 win at number one. The win pushes Rivera's career total to 76, the second-highest in Charlotte history.

The 49ers captured the crucial doubles point in the match by also winning at number two, with junior Anna Ekelund (Lomma, Sweden) and freshman Lisa Grosselius (Molndal, Sweden) taking an 8-5 win. This duo is a team-best 18-2 this season, including a 14-1 mark at number two and a perfect 4-0 in league doubles matches.

Charlotte managed a split of the singles for the team win, with both freshmen in the lineup taking wins.

Grosselius won her 14th match of the year after dropping the first set, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Natsuko Takayanagi (Fukui, Japan) earned a singles victory at number three, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3. She leads the 49ers with 21 wins this season, and is 3-1 in league matches.

Junior Iveta Guneva (Sofia, Bulgaria), also returning after missing Wednesday's match, got a straight-sets win at number six, 7-6 (4), 6-1. She is 15-5 on the season, a perfect 3-0 in league matches.

Charlotte plays its final two matches on the road next week, starting with a Tuesday afternoon tilt at Appalachian State, starting at 3 p.m.
