Women's Tennis Suffers Second Loss of Season, 5-2

Charlotte women's tennis lost its first conference match of the season on a neutral site in Charleston against Massachusetts Tuesday morning. The loss was only the second for Charlotte this season, as the 49ers slip to 12-2, 2-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Musketeers improve to 8-5 this season, including a 5-1 mark in the A-10.

The 49ers got a doubles win at number two, with junior Anna Ekelund (Lomma, Sweden) and freshman Lisa Grosselius (Molndal, Sweden) taking an 8-2 victory. The pair is a team-best 14-1 together this season.

In singles, Charlotte won at number five with Ekelund winning in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (5) and a number six, with junior Iveta Guneva (Sofia, Bulgaria) winning in three sets, 5-7, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (10-8).

Guneva improves to 13-4 this season, with Ekelund close behind at 12-5.

The 49ers will finish off the home portion of the schedule with a five match home stand. It begins this Saturday against UNC Wilmington at 11 a.m.
