Women's Tennis Sweeps WCU for Fourth-Straight Win

Charlotte women's tennis team won its fourth-straight match and improved to 11-1 overall with a 7-0 sweep of Western Carolina Thursday afternoon at the Halton-Wagner Complex.  The Catamounts fall to 1-9 this season.

The 49ers top two pairs both got their 12th wins of the season in the match. Charlotte's top pair of senior Andrea Rivera (Lima, Peru) and junior Alexandra Zinn (Trelleborg, Sweden) took an 8-2 victory and improved to 9-1 in dual matches.

Charlotte's second pairing of junior Anna Ekelund (Lomma, Sweden) and freshman Lisa Grosselius (Molndal, Sweden) kept pace with an 8-3 win for a 12-1 mark, 9-1 in dual matches.

Charlotte's number-three doubles pair of Dominica Nemec (Calgary, Canada) and Natsuko Takayanagi (Fukui, Japan) won 8-0 and improved to 10-6 this season.

Only Takayanagi needed a third set to win her singles match in the sweep. She is a team-best 17-3 in singles play this season. The 49ers are 59-10 (.855 winning percentage) in singles play in 12 matches this season.

Junior Iveta Guneva (Sofia, Bulgaria) earned her 12th singles win and fourth in a row at number-six for the 49ers.

Charlotte hosts a pair of games this weekend. Western Michigan is the Saturday opponent at 1 p.m. ahead of an 11 a.m. match against Coastal Carolina Sunday.
