Two home tournaments highlight fall tennis slate
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four tournaments, including a pair at home, await the Charlotte women’s tennis team during the 2014 fall calendar as announced Wednesday by head coach Michaela Gorman.

“We will have the opportunity to play a highly-competitive schedule this fall against schools from some of the best conferences in the country,” Gorman said. “We’re also very excited to again host two tournaments to showcase our players in front of our own fans and put this beautiful facility (Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex) on display.

“We will use this fall season to prepare us for the spring. As a team, we will work hard every day to be ready for the challenges ahead.”

The 49ers open the fall by playing host to the Charlotte Invitational Sept. 12-13. The campaign will end with the Niners welcoming squads to town for the 49er Inviational Oct. 31-Nov. 1. Both events, which will be free admission, will feature visiting teams for a round-robin format as in past years. Teams for each event will be announced at a later date.

Charlotte will travel in-state for two other October tournaments, starting with the Wake Forest Invitational Oct. 3-5 in Winston-Salem. The 49ers will then again participate in the ITA Carolina Regional in Chapel Hill, Oct. 16-20.

A complete spring schedule will be unveiled on another date as Charlotte prepares for its second year back in Conference USA.
