IRVING, Texas – Charlotte freshman Macy Vonderschmidt was the lone 49ers representative on the postseason All-Conference USA women’s tennis teams, as announced by the league office Tuesday morning. Vonderschmidt, a McKinney, Texas, native, was selected to the singles second team after completing her first year as a collegian.

“This is a great honor for Macy as a freshman in a very competitive conference,” head coach Michaela Gorman said. “We are very proud of her and her hard work this year.”

Vonderschmidt’s rookie campaign was highlighted by her receiving the March 25 Conference USA Athlete of the Week accolade, the first such plaudit by a Charlotte player as a member of the league. She shared the team lead with 11 singles victories, all coming during the spring, and was the only member of the team to finish in double digits during the dual match season.

She started the spring at the No. 5 position and climbed as high as No. 3 in the lineup, garnering a 4-1 record at the highest slot. She also added a 3-1 record when playing at No. 4 singles.

She captured victories in a team-best six-straight decisions, leading to her weekly conference honor, and then closed the spring with four-consecutive triumphs. Against Conference USA competition, she won all three of her decisions, including two in three sets.

Though not factoring into her all-conference award, Vonderschmidt also paced the squad with eight doubles wins, including seven in dual matches. She played with four different partners, and her tandem with fellow freshman Victoria Pahlett tallied three victories in its last three decisions.

It marks the ninth-straight season in which at least one 49ers player has received an all-conference plaudit, while Vonderschmidt becomes only the second All-Conference USA honoree in program history following Laura Swain’s third team nod in 2002.
