In-state matchup set for Wednesday women’s tennis
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte will look to improve upon its 6-1 record at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex when the 49ers’ women’s tennis team plays host to North Carolina Central at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

“We’re looking forward to a great match against North Carolina Central tomorrow,” head coach Michaela Gorman said.

Charlotte is 6-11 overall this spring but is coming off a 6-1 victory over Davidson Friday in which it won the doubles point and then five of the six singles matches to roll to the triumph over the cross-county foe.

Juniors Lisa Grosselius and Natsuko Takayanagi lead the squad with nine singles wins apiece, one more than freshman Macy Vonderschmidt. Vonderschmidt’s eight victories have all come in dual matches, pacing the team this spring.

The rookie, who was tabbed the March 25 Conference USA Athlete of the Week, is also a part of the top-two doubles pairings. She has tallied three triumphs with sophomore Jessica Pérez and added two more with classmate Victoria Pahlett.

North Carolina Central brings a 4-11 record into the match, having dropped a 6-1 decision at East Carolina Saturday in its most recent outing. The Lady Eagles were slated to face North Carolina A&T Monday but inclement weather postponed the contest until later this week.

Aissa Muamba leads head coach David Nass’ squad with eight singles victories, all at the No. 2 position. She has also contributed five doubles triumphs with Mia Ramic to set the pace this spring.

Wednesday’s contest will mark the fourth-straight season in which the two teams have met with the 49ers earning wins each time, including a slim 4-3 triumph last spring. All matches between the two programs have been played in the Queen City.
