BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Charlotte women’s tennis was competitive all afternoon, including earning a pair of singles tie-breaking wins, but it was not enough as the Niners fell 4-3 at Campbell Friday afternoon.

The 49ers’ freshman Macy Vonderschmidt continued her solid play as of late, garnering her fifth-straight singles victory when she defeated Ana Maria Ortiz in straight sets in the No. 4 match 6-4, 6-4.

Her classmate, Victoria Pahlett, picked up a 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 win over Karolina Chernaya at the No. 1 spot for one of the Charlotte (4-9) three-set decisions.

The other came at the No. 2 slot, as junior Lisa Grosselius handed Natasha Afridi a 6-4, 3-6, 10-3 setback.

The 49ers opened the contest by surrendering the doubles point to Campbell (10-5), though the No. 3 meeting featuring freshman Briana Bodner and Grosselius against Ortiz and Ewa Telenga was left unfinished.

Charlotte will look to bounce back in less than 24 hours as it returns to the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex to start a three-match homestand at 2 p.m. Saturday against Western Carolina.
