collected the lone point for the Charlotte women’s tennis team Friday afternoon in a 6-1 setback at No. 73 Samford in Birmingham, Ala.
The 49ers’ first-year player needed straight sets to dispatch of the Bulldogs’ Emily Mallory 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 slot. It marked the third-consecutive win this spring for the Charlotte (4-7) freshman with two of the three coming in straight sets.
Samford (10-1), the first nationally-ranked foe on the Niners’ spring docket, picked up all the other singles triumphs in straight sets, though fellow 49ers’ rookie Victoria Pahlett
battled hard against No. 115 Stephanie N’tcha in the No. 1 slot before dropping a 6-4, 6-1 decision.
Charlotte will remain in Birmingham for another match this weekend, traveling to UAB for a Noon Saturday first serve. It will mark the 49ers’ first Conference USA contest of the campaign. No. 73 Samford 6, Charlotte 1 Singles
