Niners drop road match to Phoenix Wednesday
ELON, N.C. – The Charlotte women’s tennis team fell 7-0 to Elon in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon in Elon, N.C. It was the first road match for the 49ers in nearly three weeks.

The Phoenix started things off by picking up the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. Despite the early setback, the top Charlotte (2-5) pairing of Tyler Baker and Lisa Grosselius saw its match with Jordan Johnston and Barbora Lazarova unfinished due to the other two doubles contests ending first.

The 49ers were unable to get much momentum during singles play, though the No. 3 match went to three sets. Natsuko Takayanagi captured the first set before Bryn Khoury (4-4) rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 decision.

Victoria Pahlett and Macy Vonderschmidt, both Niners freshmen, were involved in second-set tiebreakers in the No. 1 and No. 5 contests, respectively.

Charlotte will look to get back on track when it plays host to USC Upstate at 2 p.m. Friday at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
