|Women’s tennis drops road match against Paladins|
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Charlotte women’s tennis surrendered the doubles point and never fully recovered in singles action, losing 6-1 to Furman Saturday afternoon in Greenville, S.C. The match was the third away from their home facility in the season’s first-four contests for the 49ers.
Charlotte (1-3) earned its lone point at No. 4 singles, as sophomore Tyler Baker used three sets to knock off Blair Martin 6-1, 4-6, 10-3.
Freshman Victoria Pahlett and sophomore Jessica Pérez pushed their opponents to first-set tiebreakers in the No. 1 and No. 6 meetings, respectively, but were unable to secure a set win.
Furman (2-2) started the day sweeping the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots, leaving the No. 1 position unfinished due to the ITA experimental rules being used for matches through the end of the month.
The 49ers will return to action at 2 p.m. Tuesday when they play host to Winthrop at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. Charlotte picked up its lone victory of the young campaign at the on-campus facility, handing Gardner-Webb a 4-3 setback Thursday. Admission is free to all home tennis matches.
