CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
Charlotte head women’s tennis coach Michaela Gorman
and the 49ers program have announced the signing of two players for the 2014-15 campaign. Joining the Niners will be Fleur Holtkamp and Megan Smith.
“Both Fleur and Megan will add a great deal of our talent to our roster,” Gorman said. “We believe both will make significant contributions to our program. We have enjoyed getting to know them throughout the recruiting process and are thrilled that they will be Charlotte 49ers.”
Holtkamp arrives in the U.S. as a native of The Hague, The Netherlands, where she earned national senior rankings as high as No. 69 in singles and No. 44 in doubles. She also was listed as high as No. 8 in the national junior rankings.
She has been a three-time region and district champion, finishing as runner up on two other occasions. She was a two-time quarterfinalist at nationals, including a fifth-place result.
Added to her resume was a doubles title in the Tennis Europe U16 division and a pair of category two national senior doubles tournament championships.
She also was a singles runner up in a category two national senior tournament.
“Fleur will bring a great deal of tournament experience with her when she joins us in August. She has had the opportunity to play in numerous tournaments in The Netherlands and around Europe. This experience will help her as she adjusts to playing Division I college tennis next fall.”
