CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte women's tennis will
make its second try at beginning the spring 2013 dual match campaign this
weekend when it plays two local opponents, USC Upstate and Campbell. The 49ers
travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to face the Spartans at 2:30 p.m. Friday before
playing host to the Camels at 1 p.m. Saturday as part of Homecoming weekend
festivities.
Charlotte was supposed to begin the season last weekend but inclement weather
forced the two contests to be postponed and rescheduled. The opener, versus
Radford Friday, has been postponed with no makeup date announced at this time.
The next match, Saturday's meeting with North Carolina Central, has been rescheduled
for 1 p.m. March 16 in Charlotte.
This weekend, the 49ers take to the courts against a pair of ITA Carolinas
Region foes and two teams they faced last season. The Niners knocked off USC
Upstate, 6-1, at home before falling 5-2 to Campbell in the regular-season
finale.
USC Upstate, a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference, has started the spring
with a 1-1 record. The Spartans dropped the opener at South Carolina before
rebounding with a tight victory at Presbyterian.
Campbell of the Big South Conference is 1-2 after spending last weekend at the
VCU 4x1 Invitational in Richmond, Va. The Camels dropped matches against
Georgetown and VCU before ending the event with a triumph over Temple.
Although it has yet to play this spring, Charlotte does own a 2-0 dual match
record after picking up a pair of victories last fall over Belmont Abbey and
Johnson C. Smith.
