Charlotte, NC – Charlotte won five singles matches and two doubles matches on the first day of the 49ers Invitational at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

"We competed hard today in all of the singles and doubles flights,” Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. “We aren't as sharp on the court as we will be in a month, but our team fitness level is pretty good, so that helped us get through some long matches today.  There are lots of matches left to play in the tournament and hopefully our best tennis is still ahead of us this weekend."

In Flight Two Singles, Charlotte’s Forrest Edwards continued his strong play with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Richmond’s Jacob Dunbar.  

In Flight Three Singles, Charlotte’s Alex Calott defeated Richmond, 6-3, 6-2.

In Flight Five Singles, Charlotte’s Paul Cisti defeated Richmond’s Canyon Teague, 6-1, 6-2.

In Flight Six Singles, Charlotte’s Nate Shanok defeated Richmond’s Jonathan Quenard, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4).

In Flight Seven Singles, Charlotte’s Francis Pare defeated Richmond’s Stathi Kyriakides, 6-2, 7-5.

In Flight One Singles, Charlotte’s Jack Williams lost to Richmond’s Ethan Dunbar in three hard fought sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

In Flight Four Singles, Charlotte’s Jordi Massalle Ferrer lost to Richmond’s Alex Hahn in three hard fought sets, 1-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3.

In Flight Eight Singles, Charlotte’s Alex Weber lost to Richmond’s Noah Fenton in three hard fought sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

In Flight One Doubles, Charlotte’s Williams and Edwards defeated Richmond’s Ethan Dunbar and Jacob Dunbar, 8-6.

In Flight Four Doubles, Charlotte’s Carl Solik and Calott defeated Richmond’s Kyriakides and Fenton, 8-4.

In Flight Two Doubles, Charlotte’s Cisti and Pare lost to Richmond’s Trent and Quenard, 8-6.

In Flight Three Doubles, Charlotte’s Massalle Ferrer and Weber lost to Richmond’s Hahn and Teague, 8-3.

The 49ers Invitational will continue with day two beginning at 9 am on Saturday, September 28.
