|49ers Top Liberty For Fifth Straight Win|
LYNCHBURG, VA - Behind five singles wins and two doubles victories, the Charlotte 49ers (10-5) defeated Liberty (9-4), 6-1, on the road for their fifth straight win.
"The conditions were really difficult out there today," Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. "It was extremely windy. I am proud of the way we kept our focus through both doubles and singles play. We're getting better now with each match. Our best tennis is still ahead of us. It's up to us to go find it."
Charlotte won two doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte's Jack Williams and Jordi Massalle Ferrer improved to 9-0 on the season with an 8-6 win over Liberty's Dillon Segur and Jorge Azuero. At number two doubles, Charlotte's Alex Calott and Paul Cisti won their ninth match of the season with an 8-4 win over Liberty's Shea Thomas and Egon Samaai. At number three doubles, Charlotte's Kamil Khalil and Krzysztof Kwasniewicz had their match with Liberty's Siim Tuus and Guillem Secanell halted with the score tied at 4 since the 49ers had already clinched the doubles point.
Charlotte won five of the six singles matches to claim the overall victory. At number one singles, Charlotte's Williams won his 16th match of the season with a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (9-7) win over Liberty's Tuus. At number two singles, Charlotte's Massalle Ferrer won his 22nd match of the season with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (8-6) over Liberty's Thomas. At number three singles, Charlotte's Calott won his 16th match of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 over Liberty's Segur. At number four singles, Charlotte's Cisti lost to Liberty's Azuero in three hard fought sets, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8). At number five singles, Charlotte's Khalil won his seventh match of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Liberty's Samaai. At number six singles, Charlotte's Kwasniewicz won his eighth match of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Liberty's Stan Vaughn.
Charlotte returns to action when they play their first Atlantic 10 match of the season on the road at #25 VCU, Friday, March 22 at 2 pm.
