Charlotte freshman Kamil Khalil (Moscow, Russia) earned the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week after a pair of singles and doubles wins for the 49ers. He follows teammate Jack Williams, who won the award last week to give the Niners two of the men's tennis weekly honors this season.
Since enrolling at Charlotte in time for the spring semester, Khalil lost his first match of the spring, at No. 58 North Carolina State, but has since reeled off an impressive nine consecutive singles victories, including a 5-0 mark at the number-two spot in the lineup for the 49ers.
This past week, he claimed two more singles wins (both in straight sets) and a pair of doubles wins. Charlotte is 11-5 overall this season.
The 49ers play their final home matches of 2012 over their next three, starting with Saturday and Sunday matches this coming weekend. Saturday, Charlotte hosts Gardner-Webb before Sunday's lone home conference match when Richmond visits the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. Both matches have an 11 a.m. first service.
