After a win earlier in the afternoon, the Charlotte 49ers men's tennis team fell 4-0 to Temple 4-0 in a match that ended at nearly 2 a.m. Eastern due to rain and facility delays at the Atlantic 10 Championships Friday. Charlotte's top doubles pair of Charles Martin-Lecamp and Moritz Bernhoerster won their third straight match but it was not enough to overcome a fresh Temple team, playing its only match of the day.
The 49ers, seeded sixth at this year's tournament, will face seventh-seeded Richmond, the team coached last year by current 49ers coach Billy Boykin, Saturday night for a spot in the fifth-place match on Sunday.
Martin-Lecamp and Bernhoerster won 8-5 at the top doubles spot in the lineup. The duo is 13-7 on the year.
The 49ers then lost at one, three and six in singles play to fall to 6-16 on the season.
NOTE: The Saturday match has pushed so late (past midnight Eastern) that it will be reported on Sunday morning.
