The Charlotte 49ers are seeded sixth and will be matched up with 11-seed La Salle in their opening match of the 33rd annual Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis Championship, to be held April 15-17 at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo.
The winner of the Charlotte-La Salle match will take on third-seeded Temple Friday evening at 5 p.m. for a berth into the quarterfinals, which will be Saturday afternoon.
Charlotte is 5-15 through the regular season, 1-2 in matches versus Atlantic 10 teams this year under head coach Billy Boykin, finishing his first season with the 49ers. Junior Charles Martin-Lecamp is 3-0 playing at number-one singles against A-10 opponents this season. He leads the team with 12 singles wins in 2011. The 49ers were 9-9 in singles and 4-5 in doubles matches in three A-10 contests this season.
Vying for its first title since 1979, George Washington is the top seed for the year's tournament.
The remaining seeds for the Championship are Xavier, (second), Duquesne (fourth), St. Bonaventure (fifth), Richmond (seventh), Saint Joseph's (eight), Dayton (ninth), Saint Louis (10th), La Salle (11th) and Fordham (12th).
Competition begins on Friday, April 15, at 8:00am, with the final match of the day set to start at 5:00pm. On Saturday, April 16, play begins at 8:00am with the final match slated for 2:00 pm. The fifth-place and seventh place matches of the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship will commence on Sunday, April 17, at 8:00am. The third place and title matches close out the event at 11:00am.
