Seniors Michael Anders and Chris Huynh were able to capture a victory at number-three coubles, but the Charlotte 49ers men's tennis team was unable to take advantage of the win in a 7-0 home loss to Winthrop Wednesday afternoon at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. Charlotte falls to 3-13 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 11-5. The win was Winthrop's ninth-straight.
"Winthrop outplayed us today in both singles and doubles and showed why they are the favorite to win the Big South Conference," said Charlotte head coach Billy Boykin. "We played well in doubles and fought hard in singles, but couldn't overcome their tough play in the end."
Anders and Huynh are 3-1 as a pair in the spring.
Charlotte will play a conference match on a neutral site when the 49ers face Duquesne at Radford University in Virginia Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. The 49ers will stay in Radford to play Tennessee Tech Saturday morning at 10 a.m. to complete the quick road trip.
