Charlotte 49ers senior men’s tennis player Kamil Khalil played Davis Cup for Lebanon this past summer.
"I was very excited when Kamil was invited to represent Lebanon in Davis Cup play,” said Charlotte 49ers coach Billy Boykin. “Competing for your country is one of the highest honors in the sporting world and I couldn't be any happier for Kamil."
Khalil posted a 1-0 record in singles after a 6-3, 6-2 singles win over Hamad Janahi of the United Arab Emirates. Khalil helped Lebanon defeat United Arab Emirates, 2-1.
Khalil posted a 1-1 record in doubles teaming with Patrick Chucri. They defeated Singapore’s Roy Hobbs and Joshua Liu, 6-3, 6-4. Khalil helped Lebanon defeat Singapore, 3-0. Then, Kahlil and Church lost to an Iranian doubles team of Hamid Nadaf and Omid Souri after having to retire after capturing the first 7-6 and losing the second set, 7-5. Lebanon lost to Iran, 3-0.
Last season with the 49ers, Khalil teamed with Jordi Massalle Ferrer to form the 49ers top doubles team. Khalil and Massalle Ferrer earned the program’s highest ever national doubles ranking when they reached number 31 in the ITA National Doubles ranking. They posted a 14-2 doubles record. As a freshman in 2012, Khalil earned first-team All-Atlantic 10 honors.
