Charlotte, N.C. – Behind two doubles wins and five singles wins, the Charlotte 49ers (8-3) defeated Wofford (6-7), 6-1, at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. With the win, the 49ers improved to 8-1 at home this season. This was a quality win for the 49ers as Wofford has defeated two ranked teams this season.

"This was a very good team win,” Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said.  “We competed hard in both singles and doubles and were able to win a lot of tight matches out there today.  The conditions were tough with the wind and Wofford is a talented team.  We played hard the whole time and I am pleased with our effort."

Charlotte won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte’s Jordi Massalle Ferrer and Jack Williams lost to Wofford’s Rob Galloway and Trevor Gotkowski, 8-2. At number two doubles, Charlotte’s Forrest Edwards and Paul Cisti defeated Wofford’s Haris Poric and Walker Heffron, 8-6, to clinch the doubles point for the 49ers. At number three doubles, Charlotte’s Nate Shanok, who according to Coach Boykin led the way in doubles for the 49ers with his play and energy, and Alex Calott defeated Wofford’s Jackson Keith and David Sklar, 8-4.

The 49ers won five of the six singles matches to claim the overall victory. At number one singles, Charlotte’s Edwards battled back from a set down to defeat Wofford’s Galloway, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 for his 20th win of the season. At number two singles, Charlotte’s Massalle Ferrer played solid tennis particularly in the third set to defeat Wofford’s Poric, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. Massalle Ferrer tallied his 18th win of the season. At number three singles, Charlotte’s Williams clinched the match for the 49ers with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Wofford’s Heffron. Williams recorded his 11th win of the season. At number four singles, Charlotte’s Calott recorded the 49ers first singles victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Wofford’s Gotkowski. Calott tallied his 17th win. At number five singles, Charlotte’s Cisti recorded the 49ers third point of the match with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Wofford’s Jackson Keith. Cisti recorded his 12th win of the season. At number six singles, Charlotte’s Shanok lost a hard fought three set match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, to Wofford’s Parks Thompson.
