EDMOND, Okla. – The Charlotte 49ers men’s golf team posted four consistent scores of four-over 74 in Tuesday’s Conference USA Championships final round but it wasn’t enough as Rice stormed up four spots to take the 2014 team title. Charlotte, who finished fourth as team, would post a 296 over the final round concluding the three-day event at 868. The Niners will now await word on an at-large berth to a NCAA Regional tournament which would be their tenth-consecutive berth.

"We’re disappointed to finish fourth today,” commented Head Coach Ryan Cabbage. “We really a great opportunity in front of us but we were just not able to play as well as we needed to today. I’m proud of the effort of the guys. It was tough out there with some really strong winds again. We just needed to hit a few more good shots."

Raoul Menard would lead the Niners finishing tied for sixth overall posting the first of Charlotte’s 74’s. Menard settled down after a shaky front nine with four bogies and a pair of birdies for a two-over 37. Menard balanced out his round with eight pars on the backside. Menard would conclude the three-day event with a team-best nine birdies over his 54 holes of play.

Franco Castro and Riley Davenport both held serve wrapping up tied for 15th where they stood after Monday’s second round. Castro would start with a birdie on the par-4 second before a final stretch of six bogies in seven holes put a bow on his front nine at 40. Castro would bounce back with a pair of birdies on the back nine to get to three-over, but lost his final shot on 18 with a bogey five.

Davenport’s round was opposite of Castro in seeing a smooth start with a one-over 36 on the front before stumbling to the finish line. After his birdie on nine, Davenport would add two pars to start the back nine before a pair of birdies and six bogies ended his day at 73.

Thomas Rowland would post his 74 of the day sandwiching a birdie in-between a pair of bogies during his front side round of 36 (+1). After his bogey on five, Rowland would string together eight-straight pars before his final stumble of the day with a double on 14 and bogey on 15.

Seth Gandy would wrap up team scoring on Tuesday with a 77 (+7) after starting one-under through six with an early birdie on two. Gandy’s trouble would arrive with a double on seven followed by another one on nine. Gandy would however end his day with a birdie on 17 to conclude his round of 77.

Charlotte will now wait for NCAA word to be announced in the annual selection show on Monday, May 5th at 10:00 a.m. The full-field announcement of 81 teams and 45 individuals to compete will be aired live on Golf Channel.
