Charlotte golf will compete in its third tournament of the season, taking part in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, hosted by The University of Alabama and contested at the par-70, 7,204-yard Old Overton Country Club in Vestavia Hills, Ala. Monday and Tuesday, October 7-8. Charlotte will be joined by host Alabama, along with Arizona, Arkansas, Auburn, Mississippi State, Texas, Texas A&M, UNLV Vanderbilt and C-USA foes UTSA and UAB.

C-USA Golfer of the Week two weeks ago, junior Raoul Menard (Ange-Gardien, Quebec / Beaulieu) will be one of Charlotte’s five golfers competing in the event, along with senior Franco Castro (Alpharetta, Ga. / LSU). The 49ers will bring the sophomore trio of Daniel Brantley (Asheboro, N.C.), Thomas Rowland (Consett, England / St. Bedes Catholic School and Sixth Form College) and competing in his first action of 2013, John Boehme (Jacksonville Beach, Fla. / Sandalwood HS).

Menard finished in a tie for ninth two weeks ago at the Rees Jones Invitational in Daufuskie Island, S.C., at four-over par in his only action so far this season. Castro, Brantley and Rowland have played in both previous tournaments for Charlotte, with Castro earning a tie for tenth in the Topy Cup in Japan to his credit this season. Castro has turned in Charlotte’s best round of golf this season, with a four-under 66 in Japan to open the season. He is Charlotte’s current active career leader in stroke average, posting an average round of 73.2 in his 38 rounds as a 49er.

Brantley was the Niners’ third-best finisher in each of the team’s two tournaments this season. His career average of 73.7 is third best among active players, through 16 collegiate rounds.

Rowland was Charlotte’s best finisher last season at the NCAA Regionals, placing in a tie for 15th.

The teams will play two rounds on Monday before a final round Tuesday morning at the club. Charlotte will tee off with Mississippi State and UTSA in the first groups out on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. Eastern. Live results will available by clicking here for
