Freshman Thomas Rowland (St. Bedes Catholic School & Sixth Form College) was today named the Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week, officials announced from the league offices.
Rowland had his finest tournament in team competition, leading Charlotte with a pair of even-par rounds at the prestigious Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga. over the weekend.
The field, which included four teams ranked in the Top 15 by Golfweek, struggled through rain delays that ultimately shortened the event to 36 holes. Rowland had Charlotte’s low score in both rounds, finishing in a tie for 17th of the 80-player field at the event. It was his best overall finish to par for the season and his best placement in a tournament field in team competition. The rounds were his second third at par or better this season.
Rowland is the fifth golfer to win a weekly award after the team's eight tournaments. Freshman Dan Hendry (September 19), senior Braeden Cryderman (October 17) and junior Franco Castro (November 7) were previously named Golfer of the week, while freshman Riley Davenport (February 27) was named Rookie of the Week earlier this season.
Charlotte will host the Irish Creek Collegiate next weekend (April 6-7) in Kannapolis.
