After a one-over opening round of the Tar Heel Invitational, Charlotte rallied for a two-under 286 to pull into a tie for second place in Chapel Hill after 36 holes on Saturday. The 49ers will go off last on the first tee, starting at 9:10 a.m. with tournament leader Duke, sitting at nine under, and the Tar Heels, who are tied with Charlotte. Those are the only three teams under par through two rounds at the Par-72 UNC Finley Golf Course, measuring 7,242 yards.

"We got off to a bit of slow start today, but the guys just hung in there and eventually got it turned around," said Charlotte head coach Ryan Cabbage. "We put ourselves in a pretty decent position. We just need to control what we can control and stick to the game plan that we have in place. We look forward to a great Sunday and a lot of fun out there tomorrow."

Freshman Dan Hendry (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) posted Charlotte's low round of day one, a three-under 69 in the opening round. He shot a one-over 73 in the afternoon, including Charlotte's with eagle of the season, posting a three on the 560-yard par five to help him finish in a tie for tenth at two under. Four other players posted an eagle on that hole through two rounds, with 11 total eagles in the tournament to this point. Tied with Hendry is junior Toe Toland (White River Junction, Vt. / Hartford HS), who was even par in the morning and two under in the afternoon round.

Freshman Daniel Brantley (Asheboro, N.C.) came in at even par after two rounds in his first collegiate weekend. He is tied for 14th heading into the final round of the 81-player field.

The individual leader after two rounds is N.C. State's Albin Choi, which is seven under par, with a 137. Three players are tied for second at three under.
