Junior Olafur Loftsson shot two-under par 68 on day two of the NCAA Central Regional.
With the fourth-best score of the day, the Charlotte 49ers used round two's "Moving Day" to climb the leaderboard at the NCAA Central Regional. Charlotte carded a four-over par, 288, to jump into sixth-place entering Saturday's final round at Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Indiana. The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championships. Charlotte, which started the day in 10th place, shot a four-over par, 288, to move to within seven strokes of fifth-place Stanford, which shot 8-over par today. The 49ers are at +15 after two rounds. Stanford is at +8 while fourth-place Iowa is at +6. Charlotte holds a one-stroke lead over seventh-place Tennessee (+16) and a two-stroke lead over eighth-place Florida State (+18). Junior Olafur Loftsson led the 49ers with a two-under par round of 69. He is tied for 18th individually at two-over par through two rounds. Senior Will Golden shot even-par 71 while sophomore Andy Sajevic and junior Paul Ferrier shot three-over par 74. Both Loftsson and Golden carded four birdies in their rounds. Loftsson shot one-under par on both the first and second nines for the 49ers, who began play on hole #10. Golden was two-under par on his first nine and two over par on his second nine, while Paul Ferrier, who was four-over on his first nine, posted eight straight pars followed by a birdie on his 18th hole (#9) to card a one-under par second nine. The third and final round will be played Saturday. Charlotte has advanced to the NCAA Championship Final three times, boasting back-to-back top 10 finishes in 2007 (tie 3rd) and 2008 (tie for 8th).
