|Niners set to host Green and White|
Charlotte, N.C.- The Charlotte softball team has a full slate of games this weekend starting on Friday, Feb. 21, taking on old Atlantic-10 conference foe, St. Bonaventure.
Charlotte hosts the Green and White tournament for the first tournament of the season. Charlotte was scheduled to host the First Pitch classic last weekend but was cancelled due to snow.
The Green and White will feature St. Bonaventure, Robert Morris and Cleveland State. Cleveland State was orginially scheduled to play in the First Pitch Classic but decided to keep the games with the Niners and will play this weekend.
Charlotte and St. Bonaventure are familiar foes playing numerous times in the Atlantic 10 the past eight years before the Niners moved to the Conference USA. Charlotte holds the advantage in the series with the Bonnies going 16-2.
Robert Morris and Cleveland State have played the Niners a total of five times apiece with the Niners trailing in both series 2-3. Robert Morris and Cleveland State have met once already this season in the opening weekend of the season playing in the Cleveland State Dome Tournament with Robert Morris taking a 1-0 victory in the tournament finale.
St. Bonaventure comes into the Green and White with a 0-4 record after participating in the Charleston Southern Tournament. Robert Morris is 5-4 winning the opening four games of the Cleveland State tournament but picking up its fifth win in the last game against Western Kentucky. Cleveland State heads into the Green and White with a 3-1 record with that one loss coming at the hands of Robert Morris.
Charlotte is led offensively by Jackie Kleinsmith and Samantha Slade. Kleinsmith is hittting .583 (7-12) from the plate with a home run and two RBI. Slade is hitting .500 (6-12) with two home runs and three RBI. Hayley Lewis is contributing in her first starting role for the Niners hitting .500 (6-12) with two doubles and three RBI.
Lexi Betancourt, Mackenzie Hauser and Chelsea Lisikatos will look to take the circle for the Niners. Betancourt is 1-1 with a 1.58 ERA in 13.1 innings. Betancourt pitched well in the early innings of the South Carolina game before getting tagged with nine runs (three earned) in the 12-0 loss. Hauser (0-1) picked up the loss against Gardner-Webb. Lisikatos made her first appearance in the circle of the season and picking up the 6-5 loss to Radford pitching seven innings.
Charlotte will play St. Bonaventure on Friday, Feb. 21 at 3 pm outside of the Green and White Tournament before playing Robert Morris and St. Bonaventure at 12 pm and 2 pm respectively on Saturday. The Niners will play Robert Morris and Cleveland State on Sunday.
