CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four members of the 2014 Charlotte softball team have been named to All-State teams as announced by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) on Tuesday afternoon. Pitcher Lexi Betancourt was named to the University division’s first team while catcher Jackie Kleinsmith, infielder Samantha Slade and outfielder Jessica Plemmons landed on the second team.
Betancourt, named team MVP, led the Niners in the circle with 37 appearances, 31 starts and 26 complete games posting a 19-15 record with a 2.20 earned run average. Betancourt would strikeout 211 over her 220 innings of work becoming just the third player in school history to record 200+ strikeouts in a single season. Her 19 wins in the seventh-highest for a single season.
Kleinsmith hit a team-best .349 in 2014 with five homers and 32 runs driven in starting in 47 contests. Kleinsmith finished second on the team in doubles (9) while leading the team with her 51 hits. Behind the plate, Kleinsmith would not commit a single error with 235 put outs to go along with her 33 assists.
Slade hit .315 for the year starting in all 49 games played belting seven long balls with 25 RBI and team-high eight sacrifices. Slade would set a pair of new school records in a February 22nd win over St. Bonaventure hitting three home runs and registering seven runs driven in.
Plemmons is the only repeat selection from a year ago after leading the team with 10 homers and 36 RBI hitting .306 in all 49 games. The outfielder also led the Niners in total bases (81) and slugging percentage (.551).
The four were the only members named to the NCCSIA All-State team from Conference USA.
