Charlotte, N.C- Coach Aimee DeVos and the 49ers softball staff has announced the signing of four National Letter of Intents.  The 2014 class features Hayley Pace, Taylar Byrne, Grace Beatty and Erin Powers.

Coach Aimee DeVos inks four players to add to a veteran heavy roster.  The 2013-14 roster features one senior, six juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen.  This young talent will help boost the roster as the 49ers make their return into Conference USA this year.

Haley Pace (Winston-Salem, N.C), North Davidson HS, INF, Carolina Cardinals

Pace is a three time All-American, All-Region, All-State, All-Conference, and All-County.  Pace was named as the CPC Player of the Year as well as the Davidson County Player of the Year. Plays for the Carolina Cardinals 18-under travel team...Won ASA National Championship.

Off the field she is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Spirit Club and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  Pace is in the top precentage of her class academically.

 “Pace is an outstanding shortstop from North Davidson.  Hayley is an all-around athlete and dynamic personality to have as a part of our program.  She can drive in runs, hit for power and has great hands in the infield,” said Coach Aimee DeVos.

Taylar Byrne (Chino Hills, Calif.), Chino Hills HS, Catcher

Was chosen to play in the Colorado Sparkler Tournament All-Star Game twice...Played int he All-American Game...Received the 2013 Sierra League All-Academic Award.

“Taylar's knowledge and skills behind the plate will be a great compliment with the pitching staff.  Taylar will bring a wealth of experience behind the plate and a big bat to our line up.”

Grace Beatty (Charlotte, N.C.), Olympic HS, INF, Carolina Cardinals Chandler

All-Conference in softball, volleyball and soccer...Won Female Athlete of the Year...Junior year ranked number one in the state in RBIs.  Beatty was invited to the Bronco Nagursky student leadership conference twice.

 “Grace is a "gamer".  I am looking forward to seeing her continue to grow as an athlete and softball player while at Charlotte. Her ability to hit for power and hit the gaps will lead to big offensive numbers at Charlotte.  She brings lots of excitement to the field every day.”

Erin Powers (Charlotte, N.C.), Ardrey Kell HS, OF, Lady Blues

Two time All-Conference, All-District and All-State selection...Won Rookie of the Year award...2012 SW4A Conference Tournament MVP...2012 First Team All-Charlotte Observer...2013 All-District Co Player of the Year.

Off the field, Powers has a 4.17 GPA, a member of the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and received the Knights in Action commnity service award.

Erin Powers is the other half of the local talent.  “Erin comes in as a well-polished outfielder. She is comfortable at any position out there.  Her ability to get on base will be huge for our program.”

The 49ers open their season on the road against Gardner-Webb on February 1 in Boiling Springs, N.C.  The 49ers will kick off its home campaign with a game against South Carolina February 12 at 3 pm.
