The Charlotte 49ers softball team (26-22) heads down the road to Rock Hill, S.C. this afternoon for a non-conference twinbill with the Winthrop Eagles (15-33). This marks the final regular season road series for the Niners. First pitch, which was originally scheduled for 5:00, has been moved to 5:30 p.m.

The 49ers are 31-39 all-time against the Eagles. The two squads last met in Charlotte last May, with the Niners taking the two-game sweep, 2-1 and 4-2. Pitcher Katie Watkins earned her fifth win of the season in game two last year, allowing just five hits and one earned run in the victory.

Charlotte is coming off a 1-3 weekend in conference play after a streak of 11 wins in 12 games and nine straight conference victories. The Niners split with Rhode Island, 8-0 and 4-3 (11 innings) before getting swept by UMass, 3-1 and 8-0 over the weekend.

Junior Briana Gwaltney leads the green and white offense in just about every statistical category on the year. Batting .338, she has 50 hits with 40 RBIs and 38 runs scored. In addition, her 14 home runs lead the Atlantic 10 and rank 21st nationally. Rookie Alex Rogers is close behind, batting .326 with 47 hits, 32 runs scored and a team-best 35 walks.

In the circle, freshman Lexi Betancourt (14-11, 2.93 ERA) and sophomore Watkins (11-11, 4.30 ERA) have shouldered most of the pitching workload.
