Charlotte has had tough luck against the #21 Tar heels in the past, posting an 11-56 mark in the all-time series. North Carolina took both games of last year's series in Chapel Hill, 4-0 and 6-2.
The Niners are coming off a two-game road sweep of Saint Louis, extending their Atlantic 10 win streak to eight consecutive contests. Charlotte beat the Billikins, 11-5 and 3-1 (10 innings) Saturday, led by a lights out pitching performance from sophomore Katie Watkins in game two.
Gwaltney continues to lead the Atlantic 10 and currently ranks 17th nationally with a school record 14 home runs. The Anaheim Hills, Calif. native is also tops on the squad in batting average (.336), hits (44), RBIs (37), and runs scored (34). Freshman center fielder Alex Rogers is close behind, batting .328 on the year with 41 hits and 29 runs. She ranks 17th nationally in walks drawn with 34. Rookie catcher Jackie Kleinsmith is also over the .300 mark, batting .303 with 33 hits.
In the circle, freshman Lexi Betancourt leads the way with a 13-9 record and a 3.15 ERA. Watkins has improved her overall record to 10-10 with a 4.08 ERA with a team-best 101 strikeouts.
