Charlotte, N.C.- Charlotte 49ers softball takes a step out of Conference USA play for a midweek contest against USC Upstate on Wednesday night at 6 pm. The Spartans are 26-4 coming into the contest with the Niners, who are 10-12.
The midweek contest was originally scheduled for 4 pm but moved back to 6 pm due to field conditions from the over the weekend.
Charlotte and USC Upstate have meet 18 times with neither team grabbing the edge in the all-time series tied at nine apiece. The two teams met for the first time in 1986 in Charlotte. The Niners took the first two meetings of the series on April 3, 1986 (16-6 and 15-0). The Niners dominated the first half of the series winning six of the first eight meetings. Since 2008, USC Upstate holds the slight advantage 4-3, winning the last three meetings.
This will be the first meeting since April 13, 2010 and the first meeting in Charlotte since the 2009 season. Charlotte split the 2009 series at home winning game one 3-1 before falling in the night cap 7-2.
