Lexi Betancourt Named Charlotte Softball MVP

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- After missing her entire sophomore season due to injury, Lexi Betancourt (Garner/ West Johnson HS), came back strong as ever and earned the Charlotte Softball team MVP award.

The redshirt sophomore posted career-high numbers in the circle.  Betancourt appeared in the circle 37 times during the season amassing over 200 innings of work.  She is only one of three Niners to have achieved more than 200+ strikeouts in a single season striking out 211 batters.  The righty led the team with a 2.20 ERA with seven shutouts and 23 games posting of five or more strikeouts.  Lexi posted a career-high 10 punchouts twice this season against North Carolina (4/2) and Marshall (4/26). Betancourt finished the season with a 19-15 record and held eventual Conference USA champion #18 Tulsa to one run in the 2014 Conference USA Softball Championships. 

Aside from on the field accolades, Betancourt was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, awarded the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal, named to the 2014 Conference USA All-Academic Team posting a 3.887 GPA majoring in Exercise Science.
