|Charlotte swept by Nationally Ranked Tulsa|
Tulsa, Okla.- Charlotte 49ers Softball team couldn't handle the offensive power of Tulsa in the Conference USA series finale on Sunday afternoon. Tulsa took the finale 10-1 as the Golden Hurricane improved to 28-3 with a perfect 6-0 in C-USA play. Charlotte fell to 10-15 with a 2-6 mark in conference play.
After an offensive slump in the doubleheader yesterday managing only two hits, the Niners posted seven hits in the finale. Natalie Capone and Samantha Slade picked up two hits each in the loss. Jackie Kleinsmith, Courtney Carroll and Chelsea Lisikatos recorded a hit apiece.
Charlotte started off hot in the opening inning of the finale with back to back hits by Capone and Slade. Kleinsmith moved both runners up 60 feet with a sacrifice bunt. Lisikatos drew a two out walk to load the bases, but a strikeout ended the threat.
Tulsa jumped out to a 6-0 after the third inning, scoring two runs in the second and posting four runs in the bottom of the third.
After 16 scoreless innings by the Niner offense, Charlotte cracked the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning. Capone singled through the left side of the infield to lead off the inning. Slade picked up her second hit of the game with a base knock to center field. With two outs, Lisikatos recorded an RBI single through the left side of the infield scoring Capone for the only run of the game for the Niners.
The Golden Hurricane would post four more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a walk-off run rule on a Tulsa three run homer.
Lexi Betancourt would pick up her second loss of the series dropping her to 9-8 on the season. Betancourt pitched four innings allowing six runs off eight hits and four walks. Mackenzie Hauser tossed a third of an inning allowing four runs off three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Bailey Erwin (9-0) picked up her ninth win of the season giving up one run off seven hits in her five innings of work.
Charlotte will look to bounce back after the sweep as the Niners continue on the road trip traveling to Radford, Va. for a non-conference doubleheader against Radford on Wednesday, March 26. Radford defeated Charlotte on Feb. 19 in Charlotte, 6-5. The Niners return home March 29-30 hosting Middle Tennesse in a Conference USA three game series.
