Tulsa, Okla.- The Golden Hurricane pitching staff gave the Niners fits as nationally ranked Tulsa took the first two games of the series 7-0 and 9-0 in Conference USA action on Saturday afternoon. Tulsa moved to 27-3 (5-0 C-USA) and Charlotte dropped to 10-14 (2-5 C-USA).
Chelsea Lisikatos and Samantha Slade picked up the lone hits for the Niners' offensive. Lisikatos picked up a hit in game one in the top of the seventh to break up the no-hit bid of Aimee Creger. Slade's hit was in the top of the first inning on a bunt single to the catcher.
Tulsa took the lead in the bottom of the second inning of game one on a triple and a sacrifice fly. TU's Jodi Edmiston led off the inning with a walk and later scored by Cierra Hughes for the 1-0 lead. Catherine Horner made it 2-0 for the Golden Hurricane.
Tulsa extended its lead in the fifth inning due to a miscue in the outfield allowing two runners to score for a 5-0 lead. The Golden Hurricane built its lead to 7-0 where it would stay in the bottom of the sixth inning with a Jill Barrett single up the middle.
Conference USA's leading pitcher Aimee Creger silenced the Niners in game one giving up one hit and three walks. The Niners had fits at the plate striking out 13 times.
Lexi Betancourt (9-7) picked up the loss in game one tossing 6.0 innings allowing seven runs (five earned) six hits and a season high six walks.
The night cap wasn't much better for the Niners as the offense managed one hit through five innings. Caitlin Sill shut down the Niners allowing two base runners in the game, all in the first two batters of the game. Natalie Capone was hit by a pitch to open the game followed by Sam Slade's bunt single. The Niners went quietly on its way to a 9-0 defeat.
Mackenzie Hauser (1-3) picked up the loss in the night cap tossing three innings allowing nine runs off eight hits and four walks.
Charlotte continues the Conference USA series on Sunday against Tulsa in the series finale. First pitch is at 1 pm eastern.
