Two Men, Women's Team Earn Academic Awards for T&F

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers Track & Field program has been recognized for academic excellence during the 2013-2014 year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The women’s Track and Field team was honored as one of the 2014 USTFCCCA Division 1 All- Academic Teams while on the men’s side Leroy Rouse and Kerrick Williams were recognized with All-Academic Individual awards. A total of 496 men from 165 institutions nationwide earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined academic and athletic accomplishments.

Earning the distinction as an “All-Academic Team” requires posting a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher. In order to qualify for the All-Academic individual award, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay event on the official NCAA list. For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships.

Women’s Track and Field finished the year with a 3.06 cumulative team GPA. Men’s individuals Leroy Rouse, a criminal justice major, finished with a 3.35 GPA and Kerrick Williams, a sociology major, finished with a 3.28 GPA on the year.
